The hydraulic valve, manufactured from highly durable Noryl, ensures maximum reliability with minimum maintenance. In addition, the standard **Stratos** system has a separation connection for maintenance work, a mixing valve for residual hardness and a safety valve for saline solution.

**Operation:**

Water softening is achieved through an ion exchange process. For this purpose, the system uses resins with the chemical property of absorbing calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg) ions and removing them from the water.

When the calcium and magnesium ions are absorbed by the resin, two sodium (Na) ions are released, which form more soluble salts due to their chemical properties, thus avoiding all the problems associated with water hardness. Therefore, the sodium concentration in water increases when it is softened.

The ion exchange resin filling is located in the water softener column and occupies a significant part of the total volume (between 60 and 70%, depending on the model). A portion of the column must remain empty to allow proper regeneration of the resin bed.

During the treatment process, water enters the multi-way valve through the inlet port, flows into the top of the tank through the top outlet, and moves down through the resin bed where ion exchange takes place.

The treated water is collected through the inner pipe of the tank and sent for consumption through the outlet connection. At this point, the system has a treated water meter to measure the amount of processed water.

**Regeneration:**

The amount of calcium and magnesium ions that the resin can absorb is limited. Therefore, the amount of water that the softener can treat is also limited.

The system must periodically perform a regeneration process, in which the resin is enriched again with sodium ions, to continue softening the water.

At **WATERMARK**, the regeneration process starts automatically when the preset amount of water is reached. The programming device allows the user to set several regeneration initiation modes.

**Backwash:**

Water enters the column through the lower distribution pipe, washes the floating material and agitates the resin bed, thus facilitating the subsequent regeneration process.

**Saline Aspiration:**

Through the aspiration process, based on the Venturi effect, the system aspirates the saline solution, which was previously prepared in the regeneration tank. This saline solution is directed down into the softening column where it contacts the ion exchange resin and regenerates it.
